Tomorrow morning bright and early the pre-game tailgate tradition will start up. In East Lansing at Michigan State University, this will be the biggest tailgate of the season, as rivals University of Michigan take on The Spartans.
However, this will be important for reasons beyond football rivalries. You see, The Michigan State College Republicans will be tailgating with none other than Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Mitt might be in for a surprise when he arrives. Michigan State University Ron Paul supporters, along with supporters from across the state have set up a tailgate of their own. I am only taking a guess here, but I’m willing to bet that the Ron Paul tailgate may well outnumber the Romney camp. The biggest difference is that Ron Paul will not even be there. His supporters are true activists, believing the message and spreading the gospel to all who will hear it.
The biggest news for MSU and U of M fans, is the unity that will be occurring on a day of hardcore division based on which team you support. The effort from Ron Paul supporters of Michigan State, are uniting with those from University of Michigan. What better way to show that Ron Paul truly does bring people together.
Rarely do we have 2 candidates from the same political party with such stark contrast between them. Romney, coming from hundreds of millions of dollars, seems to carry himself with a certain arrogance that only an elite business man and politician could espouse. He, almost single handedly finances his own campaign, by throwing in tens of millions of his own money. He is a true political schizophrenic. While running for office in Massachusetts he pandered to the left wing. Now as a candidate we are expected to believe that he is a true “conservative”, whatever that means.
Ron Paul is quite a different story. His campaign isn’t funded by corporate interest, and wealthy donors. He is almost totally funded by his supporters, who continue to donate anywhere from 5 dollars, to $2,500 depending on their ability to do so. Ron paul has spent 10 terms as a congressman, sticking to his ideals, never pandering to the right or left, simply sticking with his convictions and principles. As a doctor he delivered over 4,000 babies, and cared for patients, many of whom could not afford to pay. That didn’t matter to Dr. Paul, he cared for them regardless of their ability pay. Some of his ideas have garnered laughter from men like Mitt Romney during debates, but he stands undeterred by their attempts to discredit his message of freedom, prosperity, and peace.
Mitt Romney supports the status quo, Ron Paul supports what our nation was founded on, freedom and equality for all. Who gets Michigan’s vote? I know who’s got mine…

“Romney is a true political schizophrenic”
Gotta love THAT description. Applies to Rudy Ghouliani and John McInsane as well.
BTW, College students can help get Ron Paul’s name AND issues out there everywhere they go — AND they can do it dirt cheap with the low-cost DIY sticker campaign: http://www.infiniteronpaul.com
I bet if you asked Mitt Romney which team he’s rooting for you’d get him to say both during the course of the day.
wow,
what an arrogant a ss! according to these guys, hemp should be illegal (miracle crop), and so should raw milk because its dangerous. freaking clowns! people are waking up to what is going on though…hopefully not too late!
LMAO, Seer.. so true. These front runners are so out of touch with the American people. Ron Paul only takes American peoples money. That lets you know who he answers to.
The cat is out of the bag. Ron Paul ain’ goin’ no place but up.
Matt– Awesome article! A home run on football day.
I bet if you asked Mitt Romney which team he’s rooting for you’d get him to say both during the course of the day.
Ron Paul is quite a different story He sure is. He espouses some great ideas but they are continually overshadowed by his wacky ones.
IF Ron Paul is and his ideas are so popular, why is it we never read anything about him in the newspapers or hear anything on radio or TV except jokes. I live in one of the top 5 largest cities in the United States and only at debate time does he get any paper mention and that is usually negative (then again almost all Right candidates get negative mention).
Another point and will close. He is touting himself as a Republican but in fact is a Libertarian. Why would he do that? Is it to deceive voters and donors? Is it because the Republicans get more media (like the debates for example)? Just asking.
RWD
The Ron Paul supporters at the tailgate were all a bunch of hippies and misfits. It’s hard to tell the Code Pinko’s and socialists from the Paulbots.
Most of them won’t bother to vote, anyway.
The funny thing is, Ron Paul is against most of the things that these goofballs profess to believe in.
Hope you enjoy your 3% of the vote.
Mitt Romney is just a fake and while Ron Paul has some good ideas his followers remind me of a cult.
We have blogged number of times on Ron Paul…

Were you among the 15 or so people at the Romney tailgate, mesablue? How cute.
“He is touting himself as a Republican but in fact is a Libertarian.”
Quick! You’d better notify Capitol Hill Police! Ron Paul has been occupying an office as a Republican U.S. Representative for 10 terms!
“Why would he do that?”
Because he is a Republican member of Congress (who beats other Republicans in primaries despite national GOP’ers and then-Gov. Bush and former Pres. George H. W. Bush supporting his opponent).
To rightwingdog. You have the question right in front of your face. You actually asked…… Think for a moment and wonder, why is it that the media only report certain things? Who owns the media? Did they used to own the media? Are they allowed to own the media? Whew! I am tired! Too may ?’s.
To mesablue. I hope that you enjoy the United States of America once martial law is declared. I hope that we still have a system that includes %’s. I do hope that you do not look back and recognize what is actually happening before your own eyes. Live FREE or DIE. Great motto. What else are you willing to give up to have that important loving protection!!! Do you actually listen to the news to find out what is happening in the world? Who owns these corporations now? Has it changed in your lifetime? It has in mine. Those who are willing to give up any Liberty for security deserve neither and will lose both. a quote from Thomas Jefferson
I was at the tailgate, and I made it over to see Mitt Romney speak as well. If the videos that were taken of us holding our RP signs near Mr. Romney ever make it up, you can judge for yourself if I’m a so-called hippie.
I prefer to let Mr. Pauls positions and principles speak for themselves than to engage in useless personal attacks.
“I am only taking a guess here, but I’m willing to bet that the Ron Paul tailgate may well outnumber the Romney camp.”
I’ll see that bet; miraculously, Ron Paul’s internet support is translating into real life.
Stop using people with disabilities to smear political candidates. that was an extremely difficult and awkward situation to put someone in. you should be ashamed of yourself
Send us your Tailgate Pictures and win the GOP Tailgate Contest!!
To the person who said the tailgate was full of hippies and misfits, not true at all. I was there and it was a huge a turnout. There is alot of support from Michigan State students, you would be suprised. Alot of college students are getting their first chance to vote and wouldnt turn it down.
